Massive budget is welcomed
The council has plans to spend $49.2 million on a capital works program – the largest in the council’s history – up from
$41.04 million in the previous budget.
Under the planned budget, the Waverley Gymnastics/ Oakleigh Recreation Centre redevelopment would be given $8 million to start construction of the
$20 million build, and become home to the state’s largest gymnastics club.
The renewal of the Mount Waverley Community Centre is expected to pinch $2.6 million, while
$4.8 million is expected to be spent on roads works and $3.5 million on parks and open spaces. Rates will be capped to 2 per cent in line with the State Government’s rate-increase policy.
Two additional staff will be hired in the statutory planning team to tackle the increasing number of planning applications.
Cr Paul Klisaris said it was the most important piece of work any council would undertake in a financial year, while Cr Theo Zographos echoed the sentiments, saying it was a great budget.
